Emma Watson is vrouw van het jaar volgens modetijdschrift Elle

Het Britse modetijdschrift Elle heeft Emma Watson uitgeroepen tot vrouw van het jaar tijdens de Elle Style Awards. De Britse actrice kreeg de prijs vanwege haar acteercarrière en haar inzet voor gelijke rechten voor vrouwen.

De 26-jarige activiste is sinds 2014 ambassadeur van de Verenigde Naties. Dat jaar hield ze op het hoofdkantoor van de VN een veelgeprezen speech waarin ze haar campagne HeForShe lanceerde. Doel van die actie is om mannen meer te betrekken bij de strijd voor gendergelijkheid.

Tijdens de Awards werd Debbie Harry uitgeroepen tot stijlicoon van het jaar. De 71-jarige Blondie-zangeres verscheen op de rode loper met een kroon op haar hoofd.
